Ski Portillo
Chile
In both 2019 and 2023, I had the privilege of being commissioned as a ski photographer for Ski Portillo—one of South America’s most iconic and remote ski destinations. Perched high in the Chilean Andes near the border with Argentina, Portillo is not just a resort—it’s an experience. With towering peaks, deep blue alpine lakes, and wide-open powder fields, it’s a dream location for adventure and ski photography.

Ski Photography in Chile's Andes
As both an athlete and photographer, I’m drawn to places where the natural world feels raw and powerful. Portillo, with its high-altitude terrain and striking volcanic landscapes, offers that in every direction. Over two different winters, I captured everything from fast-paced action shots on steep couloirs to still, quiet moments at sunrise as the mountain slowly came to life.

Telling the Story of a Legendary Resort
My role in Portillo wasn’t just about documenting turns and terrain—it was about capturing a feeling. The deep camaraderie of athletes and guides. The intensity of stormy weather rolling in over Laguna del Inca. The brilliant colors of golden hour hitting the hotel’s iconic yellow facade. Every frame was an invitation for viewers to feel what it’s like to be there.
Many of these images were used in Ski Portillo’s marketing campaigns, social media, and editorial features, helping to share the resort’s world-class skiing and welcoming culture with a global audience. This kind of work allows me to combine expedition storytelling, brand collaboration, and landscape photography in a way that’s both commercial and deeply personal.

The Andes, Adventure, and Artistic Vision
As a Colorado-based photographer used to working in the Rocky Mountains, photographing in the Andes offers a new scale of wilderness—bigger peaks, higher elevation, and a ruggedness that pushes both athletes and photographers to new creative heights. Whether I was skiing with clients or capturing behind-the-scenes moments of a commercial shoot, I always sought to frame the environment in a way that honors its power.
You can explore more of my mountain photography work in the Aspen Snowmass and Snowmass Tourism collections. These galleries reflect a similar ethos—photographing not just scenery, but the deep emotion of wild, remote places.

Portillo’s 75th anniversary
I was commissioned to edit Portillo’s 75th anniversary video using their archival footage and some of my own footage.
